What a trip. When my oldest daughter was 8 she started playing soccer on a select team which meant practice twice a week and traveling somewhere nearly every Sunday for a game... indoors during the winter... it never ended. She played until her junior year in high school and then she decided to quit because she wanted to spend time with her friends rather then play soccer every day. WHAT?!? I was devastated. What was I to do??.. I was a soccer mom!! (I was also a horse, baseball, football and wrestling mom but that with with other two children).. I sent her to her room and grounded her for life! Funny thing is that I was serious at the time.. she and I still laugh about it now but soccer was her (my) life.. she couldn't just decide to stop without consulting me. Now, I'm there at the field but I'm on the outside. I'm Little Bird's Grammy so I don't really fit in. I'm okay with it because I'm here for him not them.. I've had my days of glory when I was part of the "in" crowd.. bringing the snacks, car rides, worked the concession stand.. always had my hand up. I was watching the new soccer moms more than the kids last night. They are so proud.. chests puffed out.. look at my little Johnny and Susie.. I remember those days. Never missed a game or a practice unless I was trying to catch a soccer/baseball/horse show all held at the same time... I raced around town dropping everyone off then raced around trying to catch a little of each sport.. then raced around picking them all up. I wouldn't have changed a thing but that was 15+ years ago.. this Old Crow is tired. It does make me sad for Little Bird because even though I am extremely proud of him I know there won't be shared playdates and car rides with the other moms.. I get it.. looking back I remember seeing children at events with their grandparents and I never thought to include them. I always felt sad for the child but I never looked at the grandparent as a person. Karma :) So, I will participate and help where needed but my chest is starting to droop and my feathers aren't as full so for now I'll be sitting on the sidelines under my umbrella cheering on MY Johnny.
I have no regrets.. well maybe just a little. I've been making Dr. Pepper chicken for a couple years and my husband loves it so much he often requests it, he only knows it as BBQ chicken. His brother came to town so he asked me if I would make it for them this past Saturday. I love my husband dearly.. we've been married for 32 years so I know him well. Let me give you a little insight of my husband. I believe with all my heart that someone read The Princess and the Pea to him one too many times as a child.. he is one of those guys that can smell an odd smell the second he walks in a room.. can detect anything out of place and will whine if he is the least bit uncomfortable. He hates Dr. Pepper, swears it makes him feel ill just to smell it.. for me Dr. Pepper is manna. Yes.. we are complete opposites in every way. Ok.. back to my story.. I made this wonderful meal for them Saturday night, all homemade.. Dr. Pepper chicken, baked beans, potato salad and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. My brother in law was licking his fingers and going on and on about how good it was and needed the recipe to take home to make for his wife. Now.. my husband is sitting right beside him so I couldn't tell him he has been eating something with Dr. Pepper in it all this time because from this point on every time I make it he will swear he tastes the Dr. Pepper and will drive me crazy until I don't make it anymore so I gave him a simple barbecue chicken recipe that I use to use and is somewhat similar just not as good. Is that wrong? I thought about calling my sister in law and telling her the real recipe but we don't have a close relationship.. it's not bad we just don't communicate at all. Why? I don't know, I talk and text with my brother in law all the time and think of him as my own brother but she and I don't talk at all. I could dwell and try to figure it out but I'm not.. I'm good with it.. lol. Anyway, I started to feel bad after my brother in law left because I know he will think he is doing something wrong when it doesn't taste the same but he tells my husband everything.. and I mean everything... which is what you would expect from a brother but in this case he is NOT MY brother and would take great joy in telling my husband about the secret ingredient... so he cannot be trusted with the truth. Should I tell him so he can enjoy it or leave it alone so we can continue to enjoy it? That is the question.....

In case you want to try it.. this is the recipe I use
http://www.thirtyhandmadedays.com/2012/04/chicken_recipe/
and this is the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe. I didn't add the cinnamon. They are awesome!
Did we all go to FB? I know I am friends with some of them on there but it seems that in 2012-2013 we all did a mass exodus from blogging. I'll admit that it is much easier to chat on FB but we never seemed to have the camaraderie that we shared here on the blogs. This isn't the blog I used most, I had 4 going on different subjects but the one I posted on nearly daily for 3 years seems to have disappeared so this will be my outlet from now on. Back then I was an empty nester living on a farm in the middle of nowhere.. I was an hour away from all 3 of my children and unless I left our land I wouldn't see a single person so blogging became an outlet when my husband traveled to keep me connected with the outside world. Now we live in the city where 2 of my children live and we have a 4 year old grandson living with us so I'll be lucky to have the energy to maintain one blog.. lol.

I've started couponing again too. Back in 2011 when Extreme Couponing came on the scene it totally ruined how the average person could coupon. When my children were little and we were broke I used coupons.. I would study the ads and make a menu based off the sales and the coupons that I had. Now you have to buy 32 papers and clear off a shelf and divide your checkout into 14 transactions costing 25 cents each and have a basement full of stock.. then the grocery stores started limiting how many coupons you can use and how many products and how many times you could do it in a day. I got totally wrapped up in the show and started to stockpile.. I haven't had to buy shampoo/conditioner in 5 years, I finally had to start buying toothpaste and laundry detergent last year but I'm still working on my old stockpile. No one needs that much. It was just crazy.. I've moved 3 times and had to move the crap every time. I think I'll stick with my old ways and just buy what I need and is on sale. I use to be one of those moms that if I didn't have a coupon you couldn't get it.. but back then it was out of necessity.. if I could afford a pack of Oreos at the end it was a special treat and my husband and I would eat the whole pack on a Saturday night playing Scrabble while the children slept. Ha.. We still love Oreos because it reminds us of how tough it use to be and could be again with poor planning.. be humble!
So glad you found me. I drug out my old blog and dusted it off and decided to come back home. Like many of you I've been posting on Facebook for the past 3 years but I've found that I really miss the interaction I had with my fellow bloggers so as life continues to throw me a few curveballs I've decided to return to blogging and hopefully you can help me learn how to swing :)

It's been a long 3 years for me.. we just went to court yesterday and now are the sole legal guardians for my 4 year old grandson. I want to dwell.. I want to scream.. I want to pout.. but for him I can't. I am not going to get into the issues that brought this to be, I might over time but for now I want to move on and just live. We had joint custody with the maternal grandparents for the last 2 1/2 years and that was a total nightmare for all involved. I don't know who convinced the court system that sending a child back and forth every week between homes was a good thing but I can guarantee you that they never lived that life. But... now that's over.. he lives with us 24/7 and I will admit this is not the life I envisioned for me at this time in my life but for my grandson I will do what I need to help him grow up happy and healthy.

That is where you will come in. My children were born in the 80's.. I have no idea how to raise a child in 2016. There were no computers or iPads, we couldn't even afford cable.. my children ate what I cooked for dinner, I don't think they ever had a chicken nugget until they started going out with friends to eat in high school... I had 3 children that were all under 3 at the same time so they played together.. life and everything in it is so much different this second time around. I want to just be a Grammy and let him eat whatever and do whatever while he's here but I can't.. I have to be.. I don't know.. Mommy/Grammy. This world is so much faster and uglier then when my kids were little. Some of you might be offended with my comment but I didn't grow up with 24/7 news coverage.. I doubt I even knew what was going on in the next town much less on the other side of the world. I grew up with 3 tv channels so news was at a minimum. There were times I wasn't even sure where my kids were.. I knew they were in the neighborhood but I didn't have any way to contact them other then calling another mom or just standing outside my door till one of them would whiz by. Looking back with the world as I know it now I can't believe I allowed them out of my sight but times were different or I didn't know how bad it really was.. I'm not sure.

I want to get back to sharing recipes and craft projects and cultivate friendships. I hope you will come along with me .. I want to know you too!
I have 2 now but my youngest daughter called me last week and asked me to help her make some quilts.. umm.. YEAH! She is getting married in May and she wants to make 3 quilts.. one for her sister the maid of honor and one for each of the mothers. Since she's never sewn before this will be an experience but I'm so excited to be making it with her.. she is going to start with the grooms mothers quilt... we decided to make it as easy as possible and I don't want to burn her out or get her so frustrated that she never wants to quilt again so we decided on a snowball quilt.. she has always liked the one I made (pictured below) so it's a great start.. Super easy... as far as quilts go.

So last night she came over.. I made Chicken Tortilla Soup and we got to cutting. She got all the center squares cut as we laughed, chatted and ate Hostess cupcakes... I hear the company may be going bankrupt so we had to do our part to help them out :) haha... I forgot to get a picture of her working on her first quilt but I will amend that when she comes back tomorrow to cut some more.. so far she's not having fun.. lol.. she is her mothers daughter.. I hate cutting out quilt pieces too but once that's done the magic begins. The one for me she isn't sure what she is going to do because she doesn't want me to see... I guess we can figure that out after she completes the first two. I really can't tell you how excited I am... I wish my oldest daughter lived closer because I know she would love to be working on this with us but she is so busy being a wife, mother, working full time plus going to nursing school full time.. she is always so tired. One day hopefully we can all 3 be quilting together... a mother can dream :)

I'm off to clean and start working on my new sewing room.. I have a whole new motivation now to make a space workable for multiple sewing sessions... The only issue is that it is across the street in a condo we own that currently is in a condemned building because the top two floors were burned in a fire in September. The insurance companies are still squabbling over who is paying for the repairs since it started in an individual unit so as of yet not a thing is being done. The power has been cut until the building can be rewired since they were soaked by the water used to put out the fire, but nothing can be done until the insurance companies figure it out and then the city has to approve the building as habitable before anyone can live in the building.. such a mess. In the meantime by the light of day I am going to set up my sewing room so when it is finally done.. so am I!

Have a great day my friends!
I feel overwhelmed but yet I don't really have anything I HAVE to do. That's pretty sad.. lol. I do want to share with you a SUPER find I got yesterday off Craigslist.. I am so excited! I found a Horn sewing cabinet.. I found one new on sale for $1598 and I bought mine for $100 woohoo! I don't think the girl really knew what she had... her grandmother gave her her "old" sewing cabinet when she quit quilting and she just didn't have room for it. WHAT??? I would get rid of the couch before I'd get rid of this.. haha.. well.. maybe not but it sure would be a battle!
That was my day yesterday. I have been preparing and almost salivating over spending a lazy Sunday sitting behind my sewing machine watching every sappy chick flick I could find. I had my fabric pressed and folded.. petted it a few times during the week knowing that soon I was going to cut into it and turn it into a new creation. My husband's brother was coming to town and they were leaving early in the morning to go the Washington Redskins game.. I just couldn't wait for those precious hours of bliss. And then Saturday happened.. I got the call from my daughter and her sitter is sick.... dun dun dun..... Well of course I am going to trade my day.. my one Sunday.. the day I had planned for for the last 10 days... for a day with my grandson. :) I am trying to not make the mistakes my mother in law did... when my children were little she never.. ever.. ever.. ever getting back together..... oh wait... sorry, that's a Taylor Swift song.. hahaha.. she never babysat my children.. not once. She lived a mile away but she was so busy with her own life that she only saw her grandchildren on their birthdays.. a holiday.. or if a relative was visiting. Now mind you.. I wasn't looking for a babysitter.. I was a stay at home mom, I couldn't afford daycare for three kids ages 2, 3, and 4. I just wanted her to spend a little time with them getting to know them.. I remember one time getting into a "discussion" with her about it... I told her that the kids are little now and they have nothing but time... a day will come when the tables will turn and you will want to spend time with them but they will be too busy. My neighbors knew more about my kids they she did. Totally sad.. but the day did come... she would want to visit when they were in high school and I would have to force them to be here to see her... they didn't want to. They love their grandmother because she's Grandma.. but they know nothing about her.. she has never shared her life with them.. they don't know any old family stories.. not even a family recipe. I'm not going to fault her.. she is who she is... and that ship has sailed.. but I know that I want my grandchildren to KNOW me and have memories of the days we spent together.. to know about my family... and yes, I'll even give them a family recipe.. hahaha. Enjoy your family.. and give them memories.. it's all we have to leave when we are gone.
I keep thinking I'm back to stay but then life gets in the way. This has been a really rough year for us... although compared to some I really shouldn't complain. As the holidays approach and it becomes time for new resolutions keeping up my blog is one of mine.. I miss the friends I have made here.. I miss hearing about your life and seeing the latest craft or the way you redecorated your house... it really is a sisterhood here in our little land of blogs.

Since we moved to the condo I haven't touched a thing crafty in months.. Oh how I miss the sound of my sewing machine.. or the smell of melting wax waiting for something to dip. A paintbrush in my hand.. or a can of spray paint staining my fingertips... Everything I own has been divided between 4 places for the past year but now I am gathering everything in one place and I can be free to create again. I know this sounds silly but I feel almost giddy with the thought of knowing that I will have everything together in one room soon. Every time I've tried to make something I have to stop and try to figure out if the scissors are at the main farmhouse?.. or is the ruler at the old farmhouse?.. did I bring it to the condo or better yet.. is it in storage? :( It's just a mess. But now I have a sewing room again! Woohoo! This is so exciting! Everything but the stuff in storage is now in my room waiting to be unpacked. I did find some little things I could make last weekend because I couldn't wait anymore ..

First I made this casserole carrier.. I LOOOVE it.. it's big enough to carry a 9x13 pan or a cupcake carrier.. perfect for get togethers....

It's hard to see but that is a 9x13 pan in the bottom.

I also made a cozy for my iced coffee while I'm busy sewing so the condensation won't get my fabrics wet.. lol. I actually like it and use it daily. It says to put a button and elastic to hold it together but I'm just using a safety pin.. lazy :)

I saw this sewing pedal Stay Put on Pinterest and knew I had to have one... I'm tired of chasing my pedal across the floor when I'm sewing..

I also made a diaper bag for my youngest grandson but I forgot to get a pic before I gave it to his mother.

Hopefully I'm back and back to crafting.. I know it makes me happy :)

Enjoy life my friends..
It's the only life we have!
I'm addicted to Pinterest. The problem is that I spend so much time clicking and repinning that I barely have time to make anything. I did find the most amazing tub cleaner that truly does what it says.. I now live in a condo.. oh wait.. y'all don't know.. I don't live on the farm anymore, we are now living full time in the city.. woohoo! I am no longer spending my days alone wondering what the rest of the world is up to. I loooove the farm but it was in the middle of nowhere and I had to drive an hour each way to do anything! With the price of gas as it is today it just wasn't feasible so we are cleaning it out and putting it up for sale.. cross your fingers for me that some hermit will come along and WANT to be alone.. haha.. that's just not me. Aaaanyway.. back to my original post... I found the most amazing tub and tile cleaner.. as I'm sure I don't need to say but I've been cleaning a tub for more years than I care to count.. but never.. ever.. have I had my tub shine like it does with this product.. it looks brand new! It's so simple and I don't get the grit on the bottom of the tub like I do with scrubs.. here's all you need if you want to give it a try.... what I did in blue...

You now have a powerful cleaning product that will melt soap scum
and tub and shower buildup, clean sinks, appliances and just about anything.
Just spray it on, scrub, rinse and be amazed. For tough soap scum build-up,
spray the mixture on and allow it to sit as long as overnight. Then, scrub and
rinse.

Omg.. this stuff is amazing.. I spray it on.. let it sit for 30 minutes or so and scrub.. when the tub dries it is so shiny I need shades. It does have a vinegary smell.. but to me that means clean.. my momma always cleaned with vinegar and I guess I got commercial thinking if it was on tv it has to be better.. but no.. momma was right.

Actually.. I now make all my own cleaning products.. for DIY soft scrub and awesome all purpose cleaner I found this site on Pinterest.. http://makeitgiveit.blogspot.com/2011/07/sensational-soft-scrubhomemade.html I make both and wow.. I will never be in the cleaning aisle again. I already have all the basics.. just EO's and I'm set to go.

I know it's been forever since I've posted but have I got something to share with you........ I have a bag of Fritos left over from my daughters graduation so I wanted to find something to make to go with them.. well, naturally I thought of bean dip. Being the lazy person I am I didn't want to have to run to the store for one item so I searched the net and came across the bessssst bean dip recipe and I wanted to share. It's so simple and easy I can't believe I've never made it before! Just 3 simple items and this stuff is beanie heaven in a bowl!

The blog I got it from was http://www.cheap-bastid-cooks.com/homemade-bean-dip/ while you are there check out his site, he has a ton of recipes I want to try and the pizza looks like I want to dive in and swim in it's cheesy gooeyness! Ha.. ok.. here's the recipe....

Ready?.....

1 16 oz can refried beans

That's it! Just put all the above in a food processor or blender.. whirl away and then you are left with the most wonderful bean dip made. I use Hellman's and I didn't have jalapenos so I used jarred banana peppers. Try it! You won't be disappointed!

They turned out sooo cute, I just love them. Not quite as styling as Bakerella's but on the fly I thought they turned out pretty good. I couldn't find the red gumballs she called for for the "cherry" so I used strawberry whoppers.. and since the cupcake is strawberry I thought it was kinda fitting. These are so good.. strawberry, chocolate ganache.. buttercream icing and a whopper on top?!! Heaven. This is my new go-to birthday cake.. who's birthday is next? lol Just wanted to share.

On the crafty front I haven't done much lately, I've been going through all my stuff and getting rid of the junk so I can have some crafting room. I've just been in a funk and couldn't seem to start/finish much of anything. My sewing area is so crammed that I can't find anything and I know I have it and so I just give up looking and put everything away or shove it in a corner. Hopefully when I clear my sewing/crafting area my brain will clear too and I can get back to it.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend and get plenty of sunshine!!

Love,
I told myself I was not going to blog until I had something crafty to post and so I pulled out my fabrics.. searched a few tutorials and made a bag for all my rulers....it's huge! Finally I'll have a place to store all my rulers instead of having them scattered all around my sewing room.. and while I was at it, I made 2.. the folded one in the corner I made for a buddy of mine that I owe a few presents to.. wonder who that could be :)

It's hard for me sometimes to get going but once I started and got the ruler holders completed I wanted to sew more.. so I dug back into my fabrics and made these adorable lunch totes that I've been wanting to make.. they turned out so cute! I only have one pictured because I still have to put the final touches on the second one but I was excited to show you.

On Facebook a couple-three weeks ago there was a posting going around that said for the first 5 people to respond you would make something crafty and send to them some time over the course of the year... in return they had to post on their blog and keep it going... well one of these is going to someone who responded to my post. I hope she likes it..

It has an expandable liner so you can take taller containers..

and I used a vinyl tablecloth for the lining to make clean up easy... I really like how these turned out. My original intention was to send both to two people.. but I think one is just going to have to stay here with me.. ya never know when a girl wants to pack a cute lunch.. lol.

I'm off to check your blogs to see what you've been up to and then finish the other lunch bag. Have a great night everyone!
Oh my gosh.. they are soooo good. I love a good biscuit in the morning with a little jam.. or the afternoon with a little ham.. or the evening with a little .....Spam? ick.. no, maybe not the Spam (definitely NOT the Spam) but I couldn't think of anything else that rhymes. Ok.. so I'm not a poet.. lol. Anyway.. I found this recipe on the blog Real Mom Kitchen to make biscuits that you freeze so anytime you want one you just pop them in the oven. I froze 18 and baked up the remaining 6.. I ate 2 before they had even cooled.. YUM! Here they are as I put them in the freezer, after an hour I took them out of the dish and put 2 in snack size baggies and then put all the baggies in a gallon size freezer bag so I can cook as many as I want at any time.
Makes 16-20 biscuits.
Now I need to find a good Buttermilk biscuit recipe to freeze. Don't you just love a well stocked freezer? I'm working on mine. I use to be a random shopper.. a little of this.. a lot of that.. then throw it in the freezer and slowly it would sink to the bottom. Not anymore, I am going through my freezer and making a list of what is in there so I can use it while I still know what it is.. lol. I found one bag that I called a mystery dinner because I couldn't figure out what it was.. I set it on the counter and let it thaw (then I forgot about it until it was too late) but it was Chicken Cacciatore.. wasted! Ok.. before I start rambling more I'm gonna get off here and go take a hot bath in my Sweet Pea bath salts.. a little bit of heaven!

Have a great night all!
Well, I started cleaning out my pantry today and I came across 2 jars of Malted Milk that I wanted to get rid of. I knew I had a recipe for Malted Milk Chocolate Chip cookies so I immediately started mixing it together. Big mistake.. I should have looked or at least try to shake the malted milk because when it was time to add it to the batter I opened the container and it was rock hard.. I couldn't even chip any off with a knife.. same thing with the second container. Well.. pooie... what to do.. I already had the shortening and sugar mixed so I decided to substitute Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix in it's place. Mixed it in.. go to get the chocolate chips... NO chocolate chips. How can I be out of chocolate chips?! I don't think I've ever been out of chocolate chips. Ok.. poke around in the pantry some more and viola... Heath English Toffee Bits and Ande's Creme De Menthe baking bits... Ya know what? It all works. Minty with a toffee crunch.... this goof might just be my new go to when I want something a little different in a cookie. Want some?

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">1 c. butter flavored shortening
1 1/4 c. light brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. hot cocoa mix (not sugarless)
2 T. Hershey's chocolate syrup
2 t. vanilla extract
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">1/2 package of both Andes mints and Heath Toffee bits (or to your taste)

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">With electric mixer, beat together the brown sugar, shortening, hot cocoa mix, chocolate syrup and vanilla until very creamy and smooth. Add the egg and mix again for about 30 seconds on medium. In a separate bowl mix together flour, soda and salt. With mixer on low, slowly add the flour mixture to the creamy mixture until well blended. Give it another 30 seconds of a good beating. Hand-stir in the chips.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Georgia", "serif"; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">With a 2" scoop, place balls of dough on a parchment lined cookie sheet a few inches apart and bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until very lightly golden. When finished move to a wire rack to cool. These won't last long, I promise.
As I progress with my New Year, New Me I am also trying to become more frugal. I had run out of bath salts and I remembered that years ago Martha Stewart had posted the recipe for a homemade Christmas gift, at that time I made it several times then filed it away totally forgetting about it until today. It's super simple and pretty darn good considering I already had on hand everything that is called for. She put food dye in hers to get some pretty seasonal colors but I prefer to leave mine clear.. I really would hate to get out of the bath and find myself a pretty sky blue :) lol. Here are the ingredients...

1/4 cup baking soda
3/4 cup epsom salt
1 1/2 cups sea salt
10-15 drops EO of your choice (I had Sweet Pea)
20 ouce jar

It turned out so pretty and smells awesome. The jar looks small in the photo but as you can see by the sea salt container behind it it really holds alot. I hope you'll enjoy it.

I'm off to find something productive to do.. lol.. lord knows I have a lot I "should" be doing. Have a great day all!!!

Hugs,
Wow.. what a frustrating week it's been so far. My hubby was suppose to fly to Charlotte on Tuesday for work but due to the weather he wasn't able to leave until late yesterday afternoon so we spent that time at our condo in Richmond. I don't have a computer there so I had to use my Nook to read your blogs, but I was unable to post or comment. BUT.. I did spend the extra time productively... as I am progressing with my New Year, New Me motto... I turned this...........

Into this...

Which fits perfectly into this...

This is how organized I USE to be. Back when our kids were little and money was in short supply I lived for coupons. I would clip every coupon I could get my hands on and plan my meals according to the weekly sales and my coupons. I never bought anything full price unless it was a special occasion. I never felt proud of my thriftyness at the time.. it was what I had to do to make ends meet back then. As time passed and hubby was able to provide more and more I quit hassling with the coupons. If I had just ONE penny for every time I could have used a coupon that I never bothered to clip in the last ten years our retirement would be set :( I have tried to use my coupons from time to time over the years and I've got about 5-10 of those little coupon holders you can pick up for a dollar but I get flustered with them because they never hold all my coupons and they are busting at the seams and then I have no place to put the coupons aside I am planning to use. This is the system I found works for me. For $1 I got this cute little box from Dollar Tree that I use to seperate my coupons into easy to find categories. Yeah me!

I also got this planner for $4 at Walmart

Now hopefully I can remember to write things down so I remember where I'm suppose to be.. lol. It's going slow, but I am going to make this year as productive as I can. If anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them!

I hope you are all having a wonderful week! I'm off to catch up on your blogs.....

I had so many plans to do today but ended up getting side tracked on blogs.. not complaining, but I can't get anything done while I'm sitting here clicking from blog to blog.. lol. BUT.. I did find a blog that has some of best recipes I've seen.. and ya know I love me some recipes :) The blog is called "Jamie Cooks It Up"... check it out you can find her on my list of blogs on the right, there are so many recipes there I don't even know where to begin. I did make her Chicken with Black Bean Quesadillas for dinner... wow, they were so awesome!! It was so easy.. as I sat here on my duff clicking away I stuck 3 large chicken breasts in the crockpot with water, oil and fajita mix.. let it cook for 4 hours.. shredded the chicken and then let it cook for another hour.....
Wish you could join me at the kitchen table.....

Good morning my friends. As I sit here enjoying my first sip of coffee it made me think of you and wishing that we were gathered at the kitchen table chatting about the day, the kids, hubby, laundry.. whatever.. oh how fun that would be. When you see it written out it looks rather mundane but I enjoy sharing in your lives, sometimes I envy your creativity, but yet it brings out my own. Even though I had quit posting I was still reading your blogs when I needed a pick me up. I knew that if I blog hopped enough I would find a post that seemed to be made just for me. When you were down, I joined you.. when you were elated, I virtually clapped for you. Because you are.. my friends.

Today my plan is to dig out the new Accuquilt I got for Christmas and cut me out a new quilt (as if I need another one started...lol). I am planning to drop off 3 quilt tops to be quilted with the longarmer (I have my own but have yet to set it up).. see how messed up I am?!? I own a longarm but it has been sitting in pieces for 4 years because I didn't have a place to set it up, but now that I do I'm too lazy. Something has got to give this year. New year.. new me. By 2012 I will be using my own longarm and my sewing room will be pristine... yup yup.. those who know me know I said that in 09', 10' and 11'.. but I mean it this time.... really I do :)

I hope you will let me call you friend. I know some of you may be finding me for the first time but I've been blogging off and on for the past 3 years... I can't believe it's been that long. It seems like just yesterday I started my blog but then as life will... it got in the way. I found myself blogging less and less because I just didn't have anything I felt worthy of posting. So, I decided to start fresh and begin a brand new blog.. one devoted to my quilting and family/friends. It's a brand new year and I've strapped on my big girl jeans and have vowed to myself to not let life get me down this year. If you see my start slipping you have my permission to virtually slap me upsidethehead to get me back on track.. lol. Last year I did very little sewing but somehow my fabric stash continued to build... ha.. I guess I wasn't feeling "that" bad.. but this year I am going to dig out my ufo's and all the kits/patterns I've accumulated and "geterdone". You would not believe all the stuff I have.. I have dabbled in so many hobbies... I have bottles and bottles of paints, stencils, glues, stuff to cut/paint/stain/hang wooden items, tea stains, card making supplies, stamps, inks, embroidery supplies, threads, stabilizers, wreath makers, paper cutters, paper slicers, hole punchers, paper punchers, colored pencils, markers, fabric, more thread, hoops, I could go on and on but I'm sure you get my jist.. each of the things I listed I have every make/style/color I could get my hands on. My husband says I am a hoarder.. but I just think of it as being prepared.. you never know when you might want to make a handmade card to send to someone (I have tubs of stamps and haven't made a single card yet).. or you might want to make a wooden sign (I've done that twice) or embroider a nice kitchen towel for a friend (never)... but.. should I ever want to... I can!! Look at me.. I made a new blog to talk about quilting and I'm talking about everything but.. oh well.. there is always tomorrow!! Be well my friends!

The Old Crow and Little Birdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12406208282056574222noreply@blogger.com8
